The reinforced racing tire for down-country riding

With modern 29ers combining aggressive, slack geometries with equally aggressive pedaling platforms, there’s no reason why a climbing bike can’t also be a party bike. The Syerra is proof, with a fast-rolling, high-grip center strip and tread that’s spaced, shaped, and siped to bite on climbs, rocks, and roots, or under braking and cornering loads.

The spacious knob layout also clears muck and soil, and the Syerra’s overall girth helps it float on root lattices and rock gardens that we wouldn’t have dreamed of riding 29ers on a decade ago. Despite that extra cushion and traction, a relatively low weight construction means the tire still spins up to speed fast while punching through rollers or earning another lap.

01

Graphene 4C Compound

Rubber, infused with Graphene in a graduated schedule of four compounds across the rolling strip and shoulders. Two stabilizing base compounds boost puncture resistance and create a foundation for climbing, braking, and cornering loads. The trail-side compounds reduce rolling resistance, boost traction, and get tacky on switchbacks and off-camber sections, wet or dry.

02

Down-Country TLR Casing

Equal parts speed for climbing and longevity for rowdy hot laps, the Down-Country TLR’s 60-TPI nylon construction maintains trail feel and responsiveness while boosting rugged durability. Climbing, braking, partying – the DC TLR is engineered for everything.

The weight savings is noticeable and is enhanced by the quick-rolling tread pattern that felt supple and smooth over all kinds of terrain. The grip is predictable and sufficient for most applications, making the Syerra a great upgrade tire.

Mountain Bike Action

The Syerra holds steady in the loose, won’t pack up with mud, and can take plenty of hard hits. It is highly recommended for the cross country rider looking for a fun tire to mix it up.

Unfortuantely Cannot Recommend

I do not like writing negative reviews, but I need to share my experience. Over the past four months, I did copious research on tires ahead of the Lifetime Little Sugar MTB race. Bentonville is notorious for punctures, specifically sidewall slashes on the loose shale that coats the trails. My research concluded with a purchase of the sidewall reinforced Syerra (front and rear) for my race setup. The tires worked great on my local trails, completing a 30 mile shakeout ride without issue. However, during the first preview ride in Bentonville, I experienced a sidewall slash 11 miles into the ride. Two bacon strips and one large DynaPlug got me going again. Things happen, but I was riding center trail – no jumps, skids, or any other flair to risk a puncture. Long story short, I ended up purchasing a set of Maxxis Rekons with EXO+. Over the next three days I road over 100 miles with zero issues - the Rekons work flawlessly. Again, things happen, but this experience will influence my purchasing in the future as this was my first experience with Vittoria tires.
