Mezcal XC Race

I’ve been using the Mezcal trails for a few years. This is my first race set and love how supple and light they are.

Nice and plump 2.4” tire. Rolls really well. Pretty light and seals up easily, while holding air over time. Perfect rear tire with ample traction. Good enough up front for most of My Riding. Bought 2 more for My Blur.

on the light side for their class, but WAY outperform in both rolling resistance (low) and grip (high). fantastic tire for hardpack, loose, and chunk. only limits I've found have been moondust, and most of that was probably rider error!

I haven’t used XC race tires in many races because I really like grip and seldom do more than 2-3 XC races a year. I have this a try and I love them. They feel really fast and they grip predictably. They don’t grip like a trail or downhill tire but they are very intuitive and fun.

Fantastic 29x2.4 XC tire. A simple upgrade that drastically improves grip and also dampens the trail. Love Mezcal! I ride mostly hard pack Midwest trails.

This is my 4th or 5th set of Mezcal XC race tires. They do everything I need without the typical giant lugs. Originally bought them due to comments about their rolling capabilities. I have done many long-distance bikepacking rides and they performed well, no flats. I also use them for my daily rides and like the traction, durability and they roll well.

Tire on the same rim is narrower than peyote in same casing. Wider tires are faster, fix it

Well Rounded

I'm using this in New Mexico in mixed hardpack, loose gravel, granite rocks, a little snow and ice. Basically it's a really fast tire in lots of conditions (I don't ride much in mud, so I can't vouch for that).

Accidentally ordered a 2.25, and had to buy a 2.4, but the new tire is extremely grippy, and handles well in a variety of terrains, while still feeling fast and nimble.

After starting with Maxxis Aspen tires (2.4), and running them in one race, I moved to the Mezcal (rear), and Barzo on the front (XC model, non-race) to get a bit more grip on higher speeds in washboard/dry conditions. These are run on a FS XC bike in 2.35 size. It's super stable, holds speed well on/off road and I've already purchased a new set in the 2.25 size (race casing) for both front/rear as the Barzo is a bit too much for my application. On side note, my better half runs these on her gravel bike (42mm) and they still look like new after a season of riding.

If you want a relatively lightweight, fast rolling tire, these seem to work well in dry/mixed conditions (can't speak to wet/rooted/mud). They are also holding up well with no flats, sidewall punctures/abrasions, and will continue to run them for the forseable future. The only disappointing thing is the price (went up again this month), but I did get mine on a rare sale, so sign up for notifications and watch your email.

Great tires

Mezcal is super solid, I can run more pressure to prevent rim dings and it hooks like I’m running 2-3 psi less. Feel is great too. Just wish it had the newest Vittoria graphic on the sidewall.

Great tire but can wear out fast. I had around 1000 miles on my tires and the rear started leaking through the side wall.

Fast, grips up well even in wet or uncertain conditions, sidewall is way too soft IMO. need to run like 23psi tubeless for it to support my weight even somewhat

Such a good fast tire with elite grip but rolls so so so fast!

Mezcal XC Race

Love my combo. Mezcal race on the front and Peyote race in the rear. Works very well and fastttt!!!

Rolls great, but the updated 60 TPI still isn't strong enough to handle anything resembling rocks. Flatted 3 miles in.

performs fantastic, very grippy in corning/braking/climbing and fast rolling. Punches way above it’s weight. Could be used as a short travel trail bike tire. Like these more than Rekons and way better than Rekon Race. Only bad thing is Vittoria isn’t making enough of them, always sold out everywhere. I use them as a front paired with the Payote XC Race rear on my FS Chisel

The mezcals are the only tires that I race on. I have raced on them for 3 years and I LOVE them!!

I've got 50 miles on these so far.

Good:
- Mounted up tubeless on some WTB wheels with no issues. Tight fit but nothing unusual (I don't want loose). Inflated and set on the first try (after I stopped being stupid and moved the bead off the valve.
- These roll well. I have them as my 'fat meat' for gravel. I can measure that I'm running a bit slower than on my 'speed tires' but it doesn't feel slow or draggy.
- They roll quietly on pavement. No dreaded buzz
- Delightful traction. I've already had a chance to ride through a bunch of mud and even in the sloping ballast stones on a rail line. All felt secure

The 'bad'
- The 'tan' sidewall color is a bit odd. It is fairly pale. Not just light but semi transparent. Not a rich brown like some photos show. Not the solid light color like other pictures. Yeah, this is nitpicking. They look good. Just could be better.

Mezcal continues to be one of my favorite tires after probably 7 years and multiple iterations.

Spent some time getting tire on my rim once on aired up instantly, winter here so unable to ride so can't give a true review on it's performance

Great all around tire for racing and riding. Supple side walls, light weight and easy to mount. If you race in ride in areas with sharp rocks or roots, opt for the version with the extra side wall protection
