Bringing clarity to tire choice and guiding graveleurs to a better ride experience is the impetus behind the Vittoria Gravel Terrain Score. Based on research in VittoriaLabs, coupled with extensive work with pro athletes, the Terrain Score provides a road map to choosing the right tire for the best possible experience. The scale, ranging from 0 (smooth such as asphalt, we’re at the border with “road cycling”) to 100 (when the terrain becomes almost impossible with a gravel bike and we're entering into MTB) breaks out terrains into five “super categories: Hardpack, Fine Loose, Mixed, Coarse Loose, and Mud.
“When riders follow the chart and start by identifying the type or types of terrains they intend to ride, and by simply tracing their way down, a rider can quickly identify the perfect tire for their situation” commented Stijn Vriends, Chairman & CEO of Vittoria.
The culmination of the Terrain Score’s successful guidance is its resolution in Vittoria’s refreshed Endurance Gravel range, featuring new labelling to correspond with the Terrain Score’s scale. The new nomenclature is anchored by last year’s launch of the Terreno T50 Mixed, the first tire to bear the new Terrain Score labelling.
The range brings new names to Vittoria’s existing endurance gravel range. With Terreno Zero becoming Terreno T10 Hardpack, Terreno Dry becoming Terreno T30 Fine Loose, and so on, gravel riders can more quickly make the connection to the tire they need. This brings more purpose to product names and more coherence to the range.
"In all the choices we make, we always strive to put ourselves in the cyclist's perspective, and this Gravel Terrain Score is precisely an effort to simplify every rider's decision, as each of them knows what bike they own and what type of terrain they will ride on the most. Starting July 10, with the arrival of the new Terreno range, this will become immediate". Commented Vanessa ten Hoff, Chief Marketing & Innovation Officer at Vittoria.
